Introduction.

In the state of eastern Maharastra 70km away from Wardha city this famous city Yavatmal is situated. Surrounded by mountains and greenery this city is known for its cotton cultivation and Durga Puja. In Yavatmal Durga Puja is celebrated as a very special festival, after Kolkata, It is the second city where huge Durga Mandaps are seen throughout the city for the whole 9 days of Navratri. Which is visible at every intersection and the whole Yavatmal city is lit up.

Although Durga Puja is a festival of the Hindu religion, here not only Durga Puja but also Eid, Christmas, and festivals of all religions are celebrated together. That is the beauty of Yavatmal City. It is famous all over India for its cotton cultivation and its washing and production in large quantities, not only cotton cultivation but textile production is also done here.

Raymond which is known for its textile industries has one of its two major textile plants located here. Raymond manufactures its products in Yavatmal and exports its products to other states. The old name of Yavatmal was Yeoti and Yeotmal.

Yavatmal used to be a part of Madhya Pradesh state before 1956 which was later attached to Mumbai and became part of Maharashtra state in 1960. According to the 2011 census, about “1 lakh 16 thousand” people reside here. There is a sex ratio of 991 females for every 1000 males and people mainly use Marathi and Varhadi languages for their daily communication.
