Pratappur City is located about 43 kilometers north of Ambikapur City. It is a small town in Surajpur district known for its agriculture, forests, and wildlife. In 2011, the population of this town was approximately 7 thousand and 7 hundred, which may have changed since then. The city is surrounded by hills and forests from the three sides east, west, and north. The hill situated in the west is known as Khoram Hill. These forests are predominantly composed of tall, mature trees, and elephants and bears are often spotted here. Besides them, the forests are also home to wild boars, snakes, and other animals.

The region in this area consists of red and yellow soil, which is why agriculture, primarily farming, is prominent in Pratappur and its surrounding areas. The Banki River flows through the southern part of the city, which is nothing less than a blessing for the people of Pratappur.
